Spill Tools
Spill Tools (TM) is a set of three programs designed for oil spill planners and responders: the Mechanical Equipment Calculator, the In Situ Burn Calculator, and the Dispersant Mission Planner. All are free of charge.
To learn more about Spill Tools, use the navigation bar at the top and bottom of the page to review these Web sections:
- Introduction, an explanation of each of the three Spill Tools.
- Download and Install, to help you download and run Spill Tools on a Windows or Macintosh computer.
- Practice Exercises, to help you learn to use Spill Tools during a response.
The Spill Tools are Oracle Media Objects (TM) stacks that run on Macintosh computers as well as in Microsoft Windows. To run, they need the runtime application "OMOPlayer" and supporting files, which are distributed with them.
Note: Spill Tools is not compatible with the latest Macintosh operating systems, which run on Intel microprocessors. Spill Tools runs on Macintosh operating system OS X 10.3 or earlier, running in Classic.
The new Dispersant Mission Planner--DMP2
NOAA's Office of Response and Restoration recently updated the Dispersant Mission Planner component of Spill Tools. The new Planner, known as DMP2, is available as a stand-alone product. Use the link below to learn more about DMP2 and to download the free software. |

Tools on other Web Sites
The Response Options Calculator (ROC), available on the Genwest Systems Web site, can be used to assess system performance involving mechanical recovery, dispersant application, and the burning of oil. ROC predicts (1) how the spilled oil will weather over time, and (2) the volume of oil that can be recovered, burned or treated for the response systems selected. It is available for download as a zipped program or can be used online. |
